The Chevrolet Equinox EV offers an optional HD Surround Vision and it also offers an optional rear camera washer to make backing always safe, regardless of road dirt or grime, while the Chrysler Pacifica doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

Both the Equinox EV and Pacifica have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Equinox EV has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Pacifica’s Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

The Equinox EV’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Pacifica doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Equinox EV and the Pacifica have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Chevrolet Equinox EV is safer than the Chrysler Pacifica:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Chevrolet Equinox EV is safer than the Chrysler Pacifica:

Instrumented handling tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and analysis of its dimensions indicate that the Equinox EV, with its five-star roll-over rating, is 1% to 1.9% less likely to roll over than the Pacifica, which received a four-star rating.

Warranty

The Equinox EV’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Pacifica’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 20 percent more Chevrolet dealers than there are Chrysler dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Equinox EV’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Chrysler vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 136 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chrysler is ranked 30th.

Engine

The Equinox EV’s optional electric motors produces 1 more horsepower (288 vs. 287) and 71 lbs.-ft. more torque (333 vs. 262) than the Pacifica’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6.

As tested in Motor Trend the Chevrolet Equinox EV is faster than the Chrysler Pacifica:

The Equinox EV can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for 307 to 319 miles. The Pacifica Hybrid has to start its internal combustion engine after only 32 miles.

Regardless of its engine, regenerative brakes improve the Equinox EV’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. Chrysler only offers a regenerative brake system on the Pacifica Hybrid.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Chevrolet Equinox EV higher (10 out of 10) than the Chrysler Pacifica (6). This means the Equinox EV produces up to 12.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Pacifica every 15,000 miles.

Brakes and Stopping

The Equinox EV’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Pacifica are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Equinox EV has larger standard tires than the Pacifica (245/55R19 vs. 235/65R17). The Equinox EV’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Pacifica (275/40R21 vs. 245/50R20).

The Equinox EV’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Pacifica’s standard 65 series tires. The Equinox EV’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Pacifica’s optional 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Equinox EV has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Pacifica. The Equinox EV’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the Pacifica.

The Chevrolet Equinox EV’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Chrysler Pacifica only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Equinox EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Pacifica doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

The Equinox EV’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (52% to 48%) than the Pacifica’s (55% to 45%). This gives the Equinox EV more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the Equinox EV’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the Pacifica’s (38.1 feet vs. 39.7 feet). The Equinox EV’s turning circle is 2.1 feet tighter than the Pacifica AWD’s (38.1 feet vs. 40.2 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Equinox EV has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Pacifica (6.4 vs. 5.4 inches), allowing the Equinox EV to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Equinox EV is 1 foot, 1.7 inches shorter than the Pacifica, making the Equinox EV easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Towing

While the Pacifica Hybrid is not recommended to tow, any Equinox EV can tow a minimum of 1500 pounds.

A Trailer Sway Control is standard on the Equinox EV, using the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. A trailer sway program costs extra on the Pacifica and isn’t available on the Pacifica Hybrid/Select.

Servicing Ease

The Equinox EV uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Pacifica uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Ergonomics

The Equinox EV offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Pacifica doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the Equinox EV the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Pacifica can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Equinox EV’s optional Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Pacifica’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

Recommendations

The Chevrolet Equinox outsold the Chrysler Pacifica by almost two to one during 2024.
