For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Chevrolet Trailblazer are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Buick Envista doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Envista doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Trailblazer offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Envista doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Both the Trailblazer and the Envista have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Chevrolet Trailblazer is safer than the Buick Envista:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Chevrolet Trailblazer is safer than the Buick Envista:

Warranty

There are over 3 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Buick dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Trailblazer’s warranty.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Trailblazer’s reliability 20 points higher than the Envista.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Buick vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 4 more problems per 100 vehicles, Buick is ranked fifth.

Engine

The Trailblazer’s optional 1.3 turbo 3-cylinder produces 18 more horsepower (155 vs. 137) and 12 lbs.-ft. more torque (174 vs. 162) than the Envista’s 1.2 turbo 3-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Chevrolet Trailblazer 1.3 turbo 3-cylinder is faster than the Buick Envista:

Transmission

For more complete vehicle control the Trailblazer offers an optional manually controlled automatic, with the available convenience of an automatic transmission and the complete gear control of a manual transmission without the inconvenience of a clutch. A manually controlled automatic allows the driver to eliminate unwanted shifts and maximize engine braking by down shifting while cornering. The Envista doesn’t offer a transmission that allows complete gear control.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Chevrolet Trailblazer 1.3 turbo 3-cylinder AWD, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a six-speed automatic is available for the Envista.

The Trailblazer has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Envista doesn’t offer a CVT.

The Trailblazer stops much shorter than the Envista:

Suspension and Handling

The Trailblazer ACTIV AWD handles at .81 G’s, while the Envista Sport Touring pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Trailblazer ACTIV AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Envista Sport Touring (27.6 seconds @ .59 average G’s vs. 28.5 seconds @ .58 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Trailblazer’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the Envista’s (36.8 feet vs. 37.4 feet). The Trailblazer’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the Envista w/18-19” Wheels’ (36.8 feet vs. 38.4 feet).

Chassis

The Trailblazer is 9.1 inches shorter than the Envista, making the Trailblazer easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Trailblazer has .6 inches more front headroom, 1.1 inches more rear headroom, .3 inches more rear legroom and 4.6 inches more rear hip room than the Envista.

Cargo Capacity

The Trailblazer has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Envista with its rear seat up (25.3 vs. 20.7 cubic feet). The Trailblazer has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Envista with its rear seat folded (54.4 vs. 42 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Trailblazer ACTIV/RS’ liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Envista doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

The Trailblazer has a 1000 lbs. towing capacity. The Envista has no towing capacity.

Ergonomics

The Trailblazer’s driver’s power window opens or closes with one touch of the window control, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths. The Envista’s power windows’ switch has to be held the entire time to close it fully.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Trailblazer has a standard rear wiper. The Envista doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Trailblazer’s headlights were rated “Good” to “Acceptable” by the IIHS, while the Envista’s headlights are rated “Marginal.”

The Trailblazer LT/ACTIV/RS offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Envista doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Chevrolet Trailblazer and the Buick Envista, based on reliability, safety and performance.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer outsold the Buick Envista by almost two to one during 2024.
